Mixed IBAL results for Kildare towns
The latest Irish Business Against Litter (IBAL) survey has found Maynooth to be ‘moderately littered’ while Naas and Kildare were both ‘clean to European norms’.
While Naas and Kildare retained their statuses from the 2011 survey, Maynooth was found to have declined, having been rated ‘clean to European norms’ last year.
A record 76 percent of the 42 Irish towns and cities surveyed by An Taisce inspectors were deemed to be clean. Eighteen of these were rated ‘cleaner than European norms’.
This means that Naas fell from 14th place in the table in 2011 to joint 20th this year. Maynooth dropped from 27th to 36th. However, Kildare rose two places to 24th. But these changes in position do not necessarily mean that the towns are any more or less litter free. Other towns could simply have surpassed or dropped below their level.
Maynooth fared better in the litter on-campus report, released in April of this year, with NUI Maynooth rated ‘clean to European norms’.
