Kilcullen’s Hugh Peacocke was a well known shoe maker and cobbler
Hugh Peacocke.
The late Hugh Peacocke of Kilcullen was known to many as a shoemaker and cobbler.
Mr. Peacocke, who passed away on November 14 last, was also an international boxer in the 1940’s and 1950’s as well as an international bridge player in the 1980’s and 90’s.
He was famous for making shoes and his customers included late Toaiseach Charlie Haughey and more recently Fianna Fail TDs Sean Power and Sean O Fearghail as well as Lord Waterford.
Mr. Peacocke’s son Ger carried on the business at Main Street, Kilcullen.
He is deeply regretted by his wife Sheila; sons Hugh and Ger; daughters Katherine (USA), Christine (Naas), Ann (Ballymore Eustace); twin brother Willie (Naas); sons-in-law; daughters-in-law; relatives and friends.
Requiem mass was concelebrated at the Church of the Sacred Heart and St. Brigid, Kilcullen by Rev. Denis Harrington, Fr. Maurice Foley, Fr. Michael Murphy PP Kilcullen and Fr. Martin Harte, Kilcullen.
May he rest in peace.
