Kate Kelly is a 15-yearold school girl and athlete who is currently in training for a place at the IWAS Junior World Championships this summer.

Kate was also born with cerebral palsy and has spent her entire life in a wheelchair. A fund-raiser will be held in the Athgarvan Inn on Friday June 1, at 8pm to help with the costs incurred which are estimated in the region of €1300 per athlete .

“I have been training very hard for the games but it should be good fun,” said Kate from Calverstown who currently holds the Irish record in javelin event called the club. “I am also studying for my Junior Cert and doing both at the same time with great difficulty.”

Kate lives with her mother Geraldine and her brother Gary and attends the Cross and Passion school in Kilcullen. She is currently involved in sport and her area of interest is the shot-putt, discus and javelin event called club. “I’d like to be able to raise the full amount [at Friday’s fundraiser],” she added. “I would like to thank Club 2000, my wheelchair sports club which has helped me with all my training and Leo Cluxton my physiotherapist.” The IWAS Junior World Games are being held this year in Olomuc, Czech Republic from the 17to the 22 of July next.
