Extended Naas clans reunite

A reunion of the extended Prendergast and Higgins families – two of the oldest clans in Naas - brought almost 200 people to the Town House Hotel recently.

Married couple Leonie Prendergast of Pacelli Road and Jim Higgins, who hails from close to Abbey Bridge, have lived in upstate New York since 1964.

Jim is a brother of Jer Higgins, former GAA player and referee and the son of late Jack Higgins, who won All Ireland medals in 1927 and 1928.

“Because they are so far away their house is something like a beacon for local people who go to that part of the US.

“Also Leonie is an inveterate emailer and this made it easy enough to contact people,” Ned, Leonie’s brother, told the Leader.

Before departing for the US, Jim and Leonie played football and camogie with Naas.
