Up to forty people attended the Community Alert meeting in Conlan’s, Booleigh on Tuesday, 24 February. Chaired by Councillor Martin Miley, it was also attended by Garda Seamus Muldowney from Ballitore.
Shortly, representatives will call to all houses in the area and request a mobile phone number which will form part of the “Text Alert” local network. Any suspicious activity will be sent to a central phone, which, in turn will be sent as a text straight to the gardai.as well as to all mobiles on the system.
A nominal fee of €5 is requested from each household to cover expenses.
It was agreed at the meeting that Booleigh Community Alert and Kilmeade Community Alert would combine for this new arrangement.
The bonus of having this kind of alert system in place is that it can also be used to send messages on local social happenings, meetings etc.
What a wonderful and very simple idea, and, hopefully, when it’s up and running, our area, which has seen a spate of burglaries over the last number of years, will not only be more protected, but, what is put in place will be a deterrent to would be thieves.
Great credit and thanks to the organisers, and to Garda Seamus Muldowney who gave out his own mobile number to those gathered in Booleigh.
Next meeting of the Community Alert group will take place on Tuesday, 15 May at 8p.m., once again in Conlan’s, Booleigh, where everybody is welcome.
“Ni neart le chur le cheile…” there is strength in numbers.

Baby makes five
Nationally there’s a baby boom at the moment, and, this week, we introduce another little Kilmeadeite, Alicia Martha Whelan, daughter of Olive(nee Heffernan) and Padraig. Alicia Martha made her entry into the world on 20 March, weighing in at 8 lbs. 1 oz., at Mount Carmel Hospital Dublin, much to the joy of her parents and two big brothers, Patrick and Fionn, who now have a beautiful little baby sister to watch over.
Delighted family all round, none more so than Alicia Martha’s grandparents, Chris and Martha Heffernan and Mary and Paddy Whelan.
Congratulations to you all and welcome baby Alicia Martha.

Dermot Breen reports that: St. Laurence’s Seniors had a free week last week in the Kildare Division 1 Camogie League and with four rounds played, they still remain unbeaten after two draws against Celbridge and Cappagh in the first two rounds followed by two wins on their latest outings. An easy win over Maynooth was followed by a win over Leixlip the highlight of which was an Aisling Treacy hat trick of goals. With two more matches to come against Johnstown Bridge and Clane we are still in contention to qualify for the final stages. Congratulations to the Larries players, Niamh Breen, Carol Nolan, Ciara Tallon and Louise Keatly who were all part of the Kildare Junior team that won the Division 3 National League title when beating Armagh by a point in a nail biting Final in Ashbourne. Well done to all and best of luck for the Leinster and All Ireland campaigns.

Arrive for Jonny
Aideen Treacy tells us that it’s “full steam ahead now for the “Arrive For Jonny” event next weekend, the 5 and 6 May. The interest is still growing in this event and we expect a big support between vehicles, bicycles and runners. Just a reminder to everyone who has sponsor cards to aim to return them to either Aideen Treacy, John Treacy or Ray Doyle this week to make registration for the various events easier on the day. A special reminder to those of you who are going to drive, to ensure that your vehicles are roadworthy and insured. Also, cyclists, remember that all important cycling helmet!. For those of you who would like to help out, contact Aideen on 087 7700789. We need assistance with catering and also some people who would give roadside assistance to the cyclists and runners. Thank you to everyone who has offered to make cakes, currys, lasaganes, breads or to bring a few loaves to feed the hungry travellers. You can bring these to either Narraghmore Village before 11.00 on Saturday next, 5 May, or to Crookstown Business Park before 1.00 where the catering van will collect your kind offerings.
Once again, your support for this would be very much appreciated.
