Derrinturn Community Development Group looking for New Secondary School
The newly formed Derrinturn Community Development Group has highlighted many important issues to be addressed for the area.
To date the group has sought the establishment of a New Community Centre, Children’s Playground and traffic lights at Derrinturn School.
They have also requested that Bus Eireann re-locate the Bus Stop from opposite the Church. They feel that the present location is too close to the junction and causing concern for motorists.
At the most recent meeting, the Group decided to explore the possibility of the establishment of a New Secondary School to be built at Derrinturn.
There are quite a number of Primary Schools in Carbury and the surrounding areas.
The population has increased substantially and the Derrinturn Community Development Group are convinced that a new Secondary School is required and will be very much appreciated in the years ahead.
The 2nd level Schools in Edenderry have quite a large number of students from this area and if a new school is built in Derrinturn the students from Carbury and the immediate area will have a choice and will be almost guaranteed a school place.
Cllr. Seamus Langan raised the matter of the problems associated with Carbury Mushrooms Limited at the recent Clane Area Meeting.
In December 2011, Carbury Compost Limited submitted a report on the odour monitoring and modelling assessment completed by WYG Environmental (Ireland) Ltd. The results of the odour monitoring and modelling were beneficial and provided useful information regarding the emissions from the 40 metre stack on site.
The environmental consultants recommended that further sampling be carried out, to include additional odour sources on site. It was also recommended that the modelling impact assessment be carried out again.
Kildare County Council agreed with the environmental consultants recommendations, and requested Carbury Compost Ltd to submit a further report based on the additional sampling and modelling assessment.
In February 2012, WYG Environmental (Ireland) Ltd carried out their monitoring on the Phase 1 stack and included samples from the Phase 2 building as part of their investigation.
Kildare County Council has requested that the report, based on the monitoring and modelling, include a review of all the available odour abatement systems which are appropriate for Carbury Compost Ltd.
Kildare County Council has requested that the report be submitted on or before the 31/3/2012.
Cllr. Langan said that he is very disappointed that this report had not yet been submitted to the Council.
Drehid Waste Facility causing problems for local residents
At a recently held meeting of the Clane Area Committee, the local Councillors requested the following information from the EPA on the Drehid Waste Facility.
How many inspections has the EPA carried out on the facility in the past 12 months?
Have they directly received many complaints relating to the odour problem?
To what extent are the operators self-monitoring the facility?
What plans are in place to rectify the odour problem which, in turn, is having ongoing effects on both local residents as well as businesses in the locality?
The Members of the Clane Area Committee also noted that these matters were brought to the attention of the relevant Inspector on previous occasions.
At the March meeting of the Clane Area Committee a report was received from the Environmental section stating that the EPA were not in a position to attend an Area Meeting do discuss the on-going issues regarding the Drehid Waste Facility, they did however state that a meeting could be held in their Wexford offices. The members were very dissatisfied with this reply and rejected the offer to go to Wexford and asked that a letter be written to the EPA insisting that they attend the area committee meeting to discuss this matter further. An Cathaoirleach asked if the EPA could attend a full council meeting.
Please note that Carbury Community Centre AGM will be held in the Community Centre on Tuesday, 8th May at 8pm.
The following numbers were drawn in the recently held Lotto Draw; 09, 10, 14, 25, the bonus number was 5.
