A wonderful night was had by members and visitors alike at the monthly meeting held in Kelly’s Pub, Timahoe on 2nd May. A Titanic Centenary Commemorative Gold Crown Coin was presented to Mr. Owen Denneny in recognition of his period of nineteen years as Chairman of the St. Mochua’s Historical Society. A most enjoyable talk was then given by Mr. James Durney on Titanic - the Kildare connection. Teas, sandwiches and cakes pleasingly finished off the evening. A big thank you to all involved. The Society now looks forward to the annual outing on Saturday 9th June to Arigna and King House in Roscommon. Anyone wishing to join us on the day, please phone Carmel Darcy on 087 6779785.

Milltown GFC Karaoke
Mass murder was committed against popular music last Saturday night in the Milltown Inn as the players got their groove on to raise funds for their training gear. Manager Alan Dignam proved to be a popular winner with Alan Jnr., crooning that well-known traditional Irish ballad, ‘Baggy Trousers’ by Madness. Another highlight was the Shania Twain ‘trio’, complete with short skirts, long wigs and hairy legs. The players have asked me to thank Aidan Raleigh for his kindness, and to Jimmy Dignam for his help in making the night go so well. The finale was an ensemble of all the players singing “Don’t Stop Believin’”. Well done to all and hopefully we will see the lads getting just rewards on the field over the next few weeks. Football: The players continue preparations for the upcoming championship match with the Reddy Cup Final against Robertstown next weekend. This trophy is in memory of former club stalwart Eamonn Reddy and will prove to be a great warm-up game for the championship, as well as the prize of two vital league points on offer. The game is currently fixed for Sunday 13th May at 3pm in Milltown and a large crowd is expected for this local derby. Check fixture list in the sports pages for confirmation.
