Barretstown left massive donation

Barretstown children’s charity has received a massive donation of over €7m, left in the will of an anonymous person. The only detail known about the person is that they were a ‘supporter’ of late American actor Paul Newman, who founded the Barretstown camp charity in 1994.

A statement from Barretstown chairman Maurice Pratt posted on the charity’s website said: “This is a magnificent act of generosity and we cannot express our gratitude strongly enough. We were first notified of the bequest earlier this year and we are now delighted to make public our good news.”

Based in Barretstown Castle near Ballymore Eustace, the charity provides Therapeutic Recreation programmes for children with serious illnesses, primarily cancer and serious blood diseases.
