ANNUAL CHRISTMAS FOOD ART AND CRAFTS FAIR
St. Laurence’s Community Complex, Oldgrange was transformed into a Winter Wonderland on Saturday and Sunday November 23/13 when it hosted its annual Christ Food Art and Craft Fair. The magic of Christmas was enjoyed in this magical Grotto, featuring ceramics, knitwear, hand crafted enamels, art, jewellery, embroidery, Christmas cards, decorations, Christmas cakes, puddings, mince pies, seasonal fruit tarts, jams, chutneys, to mention but a few.
On entering the Grotto you were greeted with a lovely glass of mulled wine to really help you enter into the spirit of Christmas. It was very much appreciated and a guarantee to help anyone seeking a special gift , or those who just wanted to browse and soak in the Christmas atmosphere.
There were in excess of 50 stalls and it was great to see so many women working from home in these recessionary times, and with such a wealth of talent on offer. We must congratulate all and wish them continued success. This is always a great opportunity for local crafts people to display their wares. Susan Waters and Brendan Gaynor were on hand to speak with anyone who was interested in the plans for the Tanyard in Ballytore. If you didn’t get a chance to view them at the Fair, you can see them in the Ballytore Library. The plans for the future of the Tanyard are well worth looking at, and we wish the committee every success with this venture which will without doubt enhance the village of Ballytore.
Dermot Breen, PRO writes “Congratulations to the St.Laurence’s/Athy camogie team on winning the U/21 Championship played in Oldgrange on Sunday November 18. Played on a blitz basis, Laurence’s got to the final by beating Naas and drawing with Celbridge.
In the Final they met the well fancied Maynooth who had come through their group with victories over Johnstown Bridge and Cappagh. In a very even first half the teams were level at half time 0-2 to 0-2, Laurence’s/Athy’s coming from the stick of Dearbhle Byrne.
After the restart came the decisive score when after Laurence’s/Athy attack led to a scramble around the Maynooth square Clodagh Glynn was at hand to strike the loose ball to the net to give Laurence’s/Athy a three point lead. Maynooth cut the lead to two points and that’s how it stood just on full time when Maynooth were awarded a close in free but the well taken shot hit the cross bar and thereafter the final whistle blew to herald scenes of great celebrations.
Strangely, given all St. Laurence’s success at every level over the past years this was the first U21 Championship since the eighties when a team led by Liz O’Donoghue Byrne with Lilly Bowden as vice captain won it and to bring the wheel full circle, Liz’s daughter was a leading player in bridging the many years gap.
St Laurence’s/Athy had a very good team performance with very good performance through out the field none more so than Dearbhla Byrne up front, Cheyanne Holmes in goal, Melissa O’Neill, Muireann Fagin, Maggie Keatley, and Shauna Moran.
St. Laurence’s/Athy Cheyanne Holmes, Chloe Monaghan, Jenny Downey, Melissa O’Neill, Aoife Flynn, Muireann Fagan, Maggie Keatley, Samantha Keatley, Alison Keatley, Naoise Berry, Shauna Moran, Dearbhla Byrne, Ellen Clancy, Bronagh Doran, Clodagh Glynn. Well done and congratulations to all and hope we will see you all building on this success next year.
