Boxer Bernard Dunne and the Bród Clubbers took to the streets of Newbridge encouraging people to use their cúpla focal last Wednesday.
The former world boxing champion is heading up an ambitious nationwide campaign which aims to inspire 100,000 people to re-engage with the Irish language.
On his visit to the Whitewater Shopping Centre Bernard was joined by racing pundit Tracy Piggott, and iRadio presenter Barbara Nic Dhonnacha.
“We’re now half way through the Bród Club campaign and I am deeply encouraged by the huge level of support that I’ve received so far,” said Mr Dunne. “With e-mails from Australia, Canada and the US, to multi trends on twitter, to people on the streets all over Ireland using what Irish they have. It’s as simple as Dia Duit, Conas atá tú?, Go raibh maith agat. You don’t have to be fluent, just give it a go. You know more than you realise,” he said.
Figures released Monday night show that Kildare people are showing their Bród and commitment to using whatever Irish they have to support Bernard Dunne’s Bród Club. You can sign up on www.rte.ie/brodclub.
